Say Hello to Savannah Valeria Smith

Baby Savannah Valeria is finally here. She weighted 8lb 5oz and 20 1/2 inches. And lets not forget beautiful.

Labor started at midnight on April 18th. Contractions kept waking me up through out the night. I was able to sleep between contractions because they were coming every 20 to 40 minutes. When we finally got out of bed at 8am the contractions were a little stronger but still tolerable. Around 9am I finally told Owen to get ready because it was time to have this baby.

On the way to the hospital, which is only 10 minutes away through the street, the contractions were getting closer about 10-15 minutes apart. When I was admitted to the hospital and the nurse checked my status I was 5 cm. I was still able to handle the contractions. While they were getting me ready to go to labor and delivery, my contractions were so close together about 2-3 minutes apart and they were getting stronger. I would breath through them and held Owen's hand while I closed my eyes and tears would run down my cheek. But I never yelled.

By the time they took me to the labor and delivery room, I had dilated 7cm. I decided to get an epidural, which I debated a lot before. It was the best thing ever. Contractions slowed down a bit, that's what epidural does. They decided to give me pitocin, because I was at 9 cm for a few hours with no sign of moving forward. However, the baby did not like the pitocin. Her heartbeat would decrease dramatically and that worried the doctor, so they took me off the pitocin. They tried the pitocin again when I was 9.5cm for another few hours and again she did not like it.

They almost had to do a c-section because I was taking forever to dilate to the full 10cm. The doctor gave me an hour to dilate completely. She came back to check on me 1/2 hour later and I have dilate to 10cm. Owen and I were so happy and thankful, because neither of us wanted me to get a c-section.

It took me 2 hours to deliver Savannah. She was what they call sunny side up, which means she was facing up when she came out. That is why it took me so long to have her.

She was so perfect, even though she was covers with a lot of nasty stuff.

I am so happy to have her in my life. Owen is a very proud father. He loves his little girl.

This is after they cleaned her up. She looks long and white.

The happy and proud parents, lets not forget tired. This is not the best picture of me, but can you blame me.

Close up of Savannah

Owen is so happy. I have caught him looking at her with so much love.

On her tummy so she can work her neck muscle. This is only done when either Owen or I are around. She is so precious.

  1. Hi Paola! I'm an old High School friend of Owen's, but I just wanted to say Congratulations!! You are one of the lucky ones, most women I've talked to have had to have a C-section when they are sunny side up, it sure makes it harder that way ;)

Savannah is beautiful, and I love her name too! It was fun to find your blog and see that your little family is growing, and so cute and happy!! Congratulations to both of you!
